What Can We Give Our Horse?

Instead of "What can my horse do for me?"

Think, "What can I do for my horse?

How can I help them live a better life with me?"

They didn't sign up for this, they don't owe us anything. But we sure did, and we owe them a whole lot.

We owe it to them to be kind, soft and patient.

We owe it to them to give them the care they need, both emotionally and physically.

We owe it to them to be present.

We owe it to them to work through behavioural issues, deficits or trauma, and obtain the knowledge needed to help them work through it.

We owe it to them to open our own hearts, look within and grow in order to receive them as we should.

We owe it to them to do all of this without expectation, without impatience, without anger.

It's a difficult journey, but once we can develop our inner selves enough to begin to be able to live these principals, we start to unveil what the horse has given us.

They gift us with patience, humility, joy, understanding, receptiveness, inner peace, and a view of the wider world, one in which we are all a part of a single, connected being.

I have so, so much to learn from them, but it is only through working on myself that the lessons they will teach me, and the secrets to life that they will share, will be unlocked.

They don't owe us a thing, and yet they give us so much.
